VERSAILLES, -- House's Butchering LLC is recalling 444 pounds of sliced bacon and 55 pounds of summer sausage due to the product being misbranded and packaged without a food safety plan. The products were sold from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.
The company reports that there have been no illnesses or complaints reported.
Products involved in this recall include Pork Bacon Thick Sliced in approximately 1 pound packages and Beef Summer Sausage in approximately 1.5 pound packages. The label will contain Houses Custom Butchering on the address line and the label will have the ODA mark of inspection and Est. 54 will be within the symbol outline of Ohio. These products may also contain a five digit code. If present, the code will begin with 12 (range: 12001 through 12366) on the label and would have been purchased directly from Houses Butchering meat market only.
Routine meat inspection services provided by the Ohio Department of Agriculture shows these products may be adulterated due to the fact they were produced without the benefit of inspection. Additionally, the product is considered misbranded due to House's not having a HACCP plan to re-package bulk bacon and summer sausage purchased from federally inspected establishments.
Houses urges their customers who have purchased the suspect products not to eat them and return them to the company. Customers may bring those designated packages to Houses Butchering, LLC. 6442 Beamsville Webster Road, Versailles, or contact Dan Whittington at 937-548-7583.
