Woman Dead in Dayton House Fire

DAYTON -- A Dayton woman is dead after her kitchen catches on fire in her house.

The family of the woman says the 84-year-old was blind and lived in the same house for 50 years.

Artie Housley was found dead inside her home after crews responded to a fire. Fire investigators say it is unclear what Housley was doing in the house or how the fire started.

"We don't know if anyone was inside the home with the lady. It appears that she was in front of the stove area," said Dayton Fire Chief, Herbert Redden.

Housley's family says she was a wonderful person and moved to Dayton for opportunities five decades ago.

"That's how she came to Dayton, to get a job at Goodwill," said her son.

The family consoled each other at the scene after they each filed into the house.

"You wouldn't have time to put everything in about my mother," said her son.
