DAYTON -- A Dayton woman took matters into her own hands to catch some pesky criminals in the act, red handed.
A $19 dollar baby monitor wound up saving a Dayton woman potentially thousands, as thieves tried to steal valuables from her garage.
Noemi Brady and her family's been living in their house on Greenlawn Street for only a few months, but it didn't take long for her to become a target for thieves. Her garage out back has been broken into several times already.
"I called police but the police said we don't have the proof, but now we know exactly when they're coming in" said Noemi Brady, Dayton.
Noemi's tight budget wouldn't allow her to buy an elaborate surveillance system so she got the next best thing... "I decided to get a baby monitor" said Brady.
Noemi has a monitor inside the garage; she says it's so sensitive, she can hear everything going on around it.
"If somebody's in the alley, I can hear it also, those guys doing construction there, I can tell how many cars are there by the noise" said Brady.
The baby monitor came in handy when James Swafford, 31 tried to break into the garage Tuesday night. With her monitor bedside, she was able to hear everything. Noemi was able to tell police exactly what was going on, which led to Swafford's eventual arrest... at the scene of the crime.
"My son tells me, to âwatch CSI more mommyâ, so you can find more ideas (laughs)" said Brady.
Now Noemi has a greater piece of mind, and she has her trusted baby monitor to thank.
James Swafford is in the Montgomery County Jail facing three felony charges, including breaking and entering.
