UPDATE: CENTERVILLE -- The Centerville community is shocked after learning a Centerville High School teacher and former girls golf coach was arrested and charged with having sex with one of his students.
Police arrested 43 year Michael Weaver, who teaches government classes at Centerville, at his Washington Township home early Friday afternoon. He was booked into the Montgomery County jail, but as of Friday night has been released.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor's office present formal charges for Weaver Friday. He faces three felony counts of sexual battery for incidents between 2005 and 2006. Police say the victim, now an adult, reported the sexual encounters between Weaver and herself to investigators and says it happened when she was a sophomore, but did not happen on campus. The Montgomery County Prosecutors office said the case will more than likely be presented to a grand jury in the next few weeks.
"The investigation stemming from incidents that occurred from 2005-2006 at that time the victim was a student at the Centerville High School, but did my happen on school grounds, said John Davis, from the Centerville Police Department.
The news has shocked this Centerville community.
"Well I'm a former teacher actually and you hear about this throughout the years you hear about it over and over, more and more especially now," said Joe Snively, a resident of Centerville.
"Shouldn't be doing that I mean they are there to learn not to have sex with their teachers," said Dennis Hobven from Centerville.
Weaver was married and his neighbors say he has two boys. They told me off camera that this type of behavior doesn't seem like him at all.
Police want this incident to serve as a reminder for parents to always talk to their children and know where they're going.
"Definitely speak with your kids about authority figures and the fact that its not right for anyone to touch them or act in those ways," said Davis.
"You just got to keep an eye on it just like with everything else all the people that your children are exposed to, I know with myself I just want to know for, adults children and everything else it's almost like treat the adults that are around your kids just like the kids that are around your kids, be diligent and be consistent and involved in whatever it is they are doing," said Snively.
If convicted, Weaver faces up to 15 years in prison.
The case could be presented to a grand jury within the next couple of weeks, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutors office.
