DAYTON  -- New Year's Eve is one of the deadliest holidays on the roads.

"Being a notorious drinking holiday it does amp up our response to it," said Lt. Mark Nichols, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Dayton Post, "We will have extra troopers out and about in conjunction with the sheriff's department and the local police agencies."

Patrolling the streets in Downtown Dayton and the Oregon District are three times as many Dayton Police Officers.

Meanwhile, businesses are also gearing up for the crowd.

"Nightbeast will be headlining it'll be $7 at the door and then at midnight we'll be passing out free champagne," said Kalani McDermott, bartender for Blind Bob's.

"The band the food the atmosphere it's just a wonderful place for anybody to come and hang out," said Dirk Roburn, a customer at Blind Bob's.

And at the Marriott in Dayton, preps are underway in the kitchen.

"We've sold 150 packages so 300 people will be involved tonight," said Scott Trammel, Assistant General Manager at Marriott Hotel in Dayton.

But those people won't be on the roads, instead, they planned to stay at the hotel.

And if you don't have a plan for tonight, a little advice.

"If you even think you've had to much to drink, get with any of the staff at the bars and they will take care of you," said Roburn.

There are no OVI checkpoints tonight, but again extra patrols will be on the roads making sure you get home safely.
