MOOREFIELD TOWNSHIP -- Clark County Sheriff's Department are investigating a series of car break-ins that happened in the Northridge neighborhood Wednesday night.
Clark County is extremely concerned because a loaded 30/30 rifle was one of the items taken from one of the cars. Police say the cars targeted were ones that were unlocked.
Blake West, who grew up in Moorefield Township says he was shocked to hear of the break-ins because he thought his neighborhood has been overall safe.
"We never locked our cars, now that all this is going on, we definitely are making sure that our house is locked up and our cars are locked up," West said.
The break-ins happened off Ridgewood Road West, Stoneridge Drive and Moorefield Road. Several valuables were stolen including GPS units, wallets, cell phones, personal items and a loaded 30/30 rifle.
"This has always been a safe place and to know that break-ins are going on, it just breaks my heart because it makes me think maybe the neighborhood is going downhill," said West.
Thursday afternoon, the Clark County Sheriff personally called the homeowners on the streets where these break-ins happened to hopefully prevent future incidents.
"Avoid keeping valuables in your vehicles, if they have to keep a valuable in the car for a period of time, try to cover it or conceal it to the best of your ability," said Captain Eric Holmes from the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
Captain Holes says because this is the middle of the holiday season, people's personal belongings including cars and homes are more vulnerable.
"Sometimes people can be in a rush and sometimes you may be tired from a long day out and may think oh I left something in the car, I'll get it tomorrow, but seriously, please make sure you lock your vehicle," said Captain Holmes.
Clark County Sheriff's Office is still searching for those responsible for the crimes. If you have any information please call the Sheriff's Department at 937-521-2050.
