KETTERING -- Quick response by dayton fire helped prevent further damage to a garage fire on Reardon Avenue this afternoon
The flames ended up completely destroying the garage, however homes nearby were saved by preventive measures from fire crews.
When the fire started, the homeowners went over to the garage and tried to put it out themselves, but were unable to do so.
Firefighters tell us it's best to leave that type of action to the professionals.
Kettering Fire Department Shift Commander Ed Yike said, "The best thing to do is call 911 and stay away from the fire, we have the equipment to put the fire out and you don't."
