DAYTON -- Christmas is now just a few days away and for many there is no money to put a feast on the table. Friday morning though, the Salvation Army solved that issue for more the 5,200 families by handing out turkeys and Kroger gift cards
"It's a blessing that they do it, all of us are poor and we're looking for something to feed the kids or give them something for Christmas.'', Edith Jordan, who was picking up a turkey told us.''
Edith has been to the Salvation Army dinner giveaway before, since she has a disability that keeps her from working.
"I have no toys for them, but I have something for them to eat.", Edith added.
Major Tom Duperree of the Salvation Army, says that he knew this year many folks would need their help, "We've also been able to project that this may be a more difficult year and indeed because of the economy because we are all struggling. We knew that the number would be up and they are up by about 400 families this year."
Because of the increased number of families to help this year, the Salvation Army says they could use a little help with donations.
