Holiday Presents Distributed to Airmen to Spread Cheer

WPAFB -- Local Airmen and Airwomen who aren't able to be with family this holiday season got a special treat Wednesday.

The Red Cross teamed up with the moving company Two Men and a Truck to distribute holiday cards and even some Christmas presents as part of the Holiday Mail for Heroes Program.

About 200 Airmen at Wright Patterson Air Force Base showed up to the event.

"I don't get to go home very often," Airman First Class Casey McCraw said. "This time of season it's nice to know that there are people that care that are not in your immediate family people that pay attention to your needs and really care about you."

"I wasn't sure what all was going on but once I got here I realize this was kind of a big deal and it was all for me," said McCraw.

"We have handmade cards that kids to have written and colored," said Patty Hiatt-Peer of American Red Cross. "We have cards that have come from other places throughout the country and this is our way to show people that don't have family here how much we appreciate them and to say Happy Holidays."

"For them to understand that we are giving that we do care and we understand that they are here alone," active duty Air Force Master Sergeant Linda Griffin-Haddox said.
