DAYTON -- It's Cyber Monday, which means a lot of people have already flocked to the web to buy those holiday gifts, but if you haven't finished shopping, there is a way you can buy online and donate to your favorite cause.
It's called Goodsearch, and it's an online database that allows you to do good in the simplest of ways.
Tuesday is the national day for giving back and while many people are already in the giving mood, there is now a way to help those local non-profits in need.
Through Goodsearch, each time someone searches the Internet (powered by Yahoo), shops online (at more than 2,500 stores) and dines out (at 10,000 restaurants), a donation is made to their favorite cause -- free of charge.
"It's the holiday season and people want to support a charity, but they also want to buy holiday gifts, so at Goodshop.com they can do both," said Scott Garell, CEO of Goodsearch.
Started six years ago, Garell says Goodsearch has raised $10 million for charity.
"The average amount that one of our 2,500 Goodshop merchants donates to charity is about 4 percent," said Garell. "Each time someone searches the Internet with Goodsearch.com, about a penny is raised for their charity.
Twenty-two local charities in the Miami Valley benefit from Goodsearch. Charities such as Clothes that Work, The Dayton Art Institute and Arky's Foundation of Dayton.
"We're kind of a quiet little corner here that people don't notice and the same thing happens for every event that we go for, whether it be Goodsearch or anything else," said Ron Cooper, President and Founder of Arky Foundation of Dayton.
Cooper says his non-profit is in their second year relationship with Goodsearch.
Their cause?
"Our cause is to promote a biblical world view including good science, a religious freedom and constitutional guarantees," Cooper explained.
Cooper and his wife created this non-profit, which is also in the form of a gift and bookstore, to educate the community.
He says the connection with Goodsearch helps them become more visible.
"We have a great set of resources in the bookstore and on our website, arky.org," Cooper said.
More than 108,000 charities and schools have raised $10 million from using Goodsearch. To sign up and start donating, click here.
