DAYTON -- Lucky Lucy, the 12-week-old abandoned puppy inflicted with parvovirus, has found her forever home.
Lucy the German shepherd spent weeks fighting the typically fatal virus and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton scrambled to find the resources and the funding to help her recover.
Lucy was abandoned at the Humane Society shelter extremely sick and weak. She spent two weeks in the care of veterinarians, who nursed her back to health, while the Humane Society raised the more than $6,000 needed for the treatment.
Actually, it took the Humane Society just three days to raise more than enough and the extra went into the group's Rescue Fund to held other animals in need.
"To have the community stand behind our organization and stand behind Lucy is inspiring," said Brian Weltge, president and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. "Thank you all for your continued support and care. Because of each of you, we gave this sweet puppy a second chance at a new life."
