DAYTON -- Furloughs for employees at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are set to start Monday.
After several months of changes and delays, base officials sent out furlough notices at the end of May. 13,000 civilian employees were set to take 22 days without pay earlier this year. That number was eventually cut to 11.
Civilian employees are required to take one day off a week until September 21. Those federal cuts are also affecting 650,000 defense department employees at the Pentagon.
In total, those furloughs for all employees are expected to save $1.8 billion in defense spending, which is just a fraction of the $40 billion that must be cut.
