UPDATE: Suspicious Package at Post Office Filled with Drugs

SPRINGFIELD -- A package at the Springfield Post Office that was addressed to the Springfield Police Department prompted a call Friday afternoon to the Bomb Squad.

The suspicious package had a note on it that cautioned officers on how they handled it. Postal officials called police, who called the Dayton Bomb Squad to the Limestone Street police office.

The package was rendered inert and then opened. Inside were drugs that someone mailed with the intention of turning them in to the police.

Officers we spoke to at the scene said the person likely had good intentions but used a poor delivery method. Wiser options would have been to take the drugs to the police department or call the police, who would have picked up the drugs.
