Exercise to Test WPAFB's Readiness Skills

WPAFB -- Visitors and base employees attempting to gain access onto Wright-Patterson Air Force Base might experience gate delays, temporary facility closures and interruptions to certain services July 8-11 as the base conducts a quarterly exercise.

Air Force officials say tightened security also could result in delays throughout the installation.

Several independent scenarios are planned, ranging from a hazardous material incident to an active shooter exercise. Phases of the exercise will test participants’ ability to survive and operate and will provide exercise evaluators the opportunity to assess a unit’s transition from peacetime readiness to a wartime posture.

Much of the visible exercise activity will take place during normal daylight duty hours. With the exception of brief periods of increased traffic congestion at base gates, most exercise activity will be transparent to the general public.
