AP-- Many Ohioans on Medicaid will see a revamped program under new contracts with health plans taking effect during July.
The Medicaid managed care program provides health care services for more than 1.6 million poor and disabled people in Ohio. The state recently re-bid its contracts serving the Medicaid population. Beneficiaries now can choose from five plans. They are the Buckeye Community Health Plan, CareSource, Molina Healthcare, Paramount Advantage and United Healthcare.
Under the new contracts, the plans are required to maintain and operate a member service call center in Ohio. The state's Medicaid department says it expects the requirement would lead to almost 1,000 new jobs.
The plans also have to develop financial incentives for hospitals, doctors and other providers that are tied to improving quality and patients' health.
