Local Mom Talks to Her Kids About CT Tragedy

TROTWOOD -- Summit Christian Church held a prayer vigil Sunday afternoon for those looking for answers in Friday's tragedy in Connecticut.

Brandi Wagner, a local mother of four, brought her young children to the vigil, including her 6-year-old daughter Keira.

"Just to picture my daughter in that situation and us not being there to save her or hold her. It's horrible," said Brandi Wagner. "And then to know there were parents who sat for hours not knowing if your child was alive or dead and you can't do anything about, it's scary."

Wagner said that's part of the reason why she brought her kids to the prayer service.

"They need to know because if it ever came up, I don't want them to be clueless in what to do. Don't want them to feel helpless."

"We have to be prayerful at all times," said the Rev. Shelby Walker with the Summit Christian Church. "We have to be vigilant about where our children are, what they are doing and what's going on around them."

Parents such as Brandi Wagner are now questioning the safety of our schools.

"No metal detectors, no security guards," Wagner continued. "If they came in, they have free range over our kids."

That's why she says she's talking to her kids.

"Maybe they can be there to help other kids who don't get that and to help them stay calm and know everything's going to be alright," said Wagner.

The Summit Christian Church says they will have their doors open for anyone asking why.
