Green Co. Deputies Still Looking for Gunman Near Kids Camp

YELLOW SPRINGS- Security is still high on Antioch College after a gunman was spotted near the campus a few feet away from a children’s day camp.

“It scared me to death, these are children, they cannot defend themselves against somebody like that who’s walking around with God knows what kind of intentions,” said parent Sharon Mains.

Eco Camps were in session at the Glen Helen Nature Preserve Thursday afternoon, when a camp counselor noticed a man dressed in camouflage acting suspicious. When the counselor confronted the man, he allegedly pulled out a gun.

Greene County deputies returned back to the area Friday in hopes of finding the suspicious man.

“We searched for several miles around and we were unable to locate the subject. We’ve continued having periodic check through the area and are working with other local law enforcement in the area of the parks.” Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer explained.

According to Valerie Webster, the Vice President for Administration and Finance at Antioch College there is heightened security at both the campus and Glen Helen so that the Eco Camp can be back to their regular operating activities.

Police are looking for a white middle aged man who is approximately 6 feet tall, with short brown hair and dressed in camouflage.

“Anytime people are out in the public, if we see something we need to say something and it's good for the Glen and it's good for the Dayton Dragon's games so be aware of your surroundings, if you see something suspicious you need to report it,” said Sheriff Fischer.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Greene County Sheriff’s Department at 937-462-4800.
