FOX 45 Helps Beavercreek Couple's Moving Nightmare

BEAVERCREEK -- FOX 45 helped a couple fight back after they said a moving company tried scamming them out of thousands of dollars.

Last week, we told you about the MacInerneys, who just moved here from Maryland. A moving company called North American Masterline initially quoted the couple $2,600. But later, they jacked up the price to nearly $7,000, claiming the couple had more furniture than they thought.

The MacInerneys reached out to us and we checked with the Better Business Bureau and discovered the moving company is not accredited.

"We let the moving company know the TV lady was talking to them on the phone, and we finally got an agreement that they would deliver our furniture," Michael MacInerney says.

This afternoon all of their furniture was delivered.

Michael hopes people will learn from his mistakes and always do research on a company before signing any papers or giving any money.

BEAVERCREEK -- A Beavercreek couple says a moving company is holding their belongings hostage until they pay their bill that's $3,000 dollars more than its original estimate.

Mary Ann MacInerney and her husband have to sit on the floor and fold out chairs in their living room, because they are still without furniture after their move from Maryland to Ohio.

"The original quote was just in excess of $2,600 dollars to move all of our stuff and we considered it reasonable," said Mary Ann MacInerney.

Her husband Michael went online and typed in North American Movers, North American Masterline popped up and he thought it was a reputable company.

"I was scammed. I know I was scammed and I know I'm still being scammed," said Michael MacInerney.

The MacInerneys say once the movers came out to their home in Maryland that original quote jumped to nearly $7,000. When we called North American Masterline to find out why, the company representative told us items the family counted as one were taken apart and then counted into pieces.

 "238 items, that's where the extra charges came from they had a lot more boxes than anticipated," said Pauline Tomich, a company service representative.

However, the MacInerneys still can't fathom why those extra items totaled thousands of dollars more, they know something is not adding up.

"Have they done this to other military people, I don't know but I am....some people may say they feel violated certainly I feel sad but I am infuriated that they will do this to veterans," said Mary Ann MacInerney.

We checked with the Better Business Bureau and the company isn't accredited. It has a B- rating and more than ten complaints this year alone.

The company debited $3,100 from the MacInerney's checking account, but says until it receive the full payment, they won't deliver their furniture. 

"So I've paid over 3,800 dollars to this company and I'm not sure where my furniture is," said Michael MacInerney.
