UNDATED -- A new diet fad may literally be hard for some to swallow.
The tongue patch diet allegedly helps people lose up to 30 lbs. in one month via a postage-stamp size on the tongue.
The rough patch basically makes eating solid food a major pain. It is secured to the top of the tongue by six stitches.
The procedure costs $2,000. It is yet to be approved by the FDA. According to FOX 11, the patch has been implanted in 83 patients thus far.
The cosmetic surgeon performing the procedure, Dr. Nikolas Chugay, says, "first of all, I think it's a very safe procedure. It's done under local anesthesia, it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes."
The patch is reversible and it can be removed at any time by snipping the sutures.
