MIAMI TWP. -- A new police chief has been selected to lead the Miami Township Police Department.
Ronald L. Hess, who is currently the Miamisburg Municipal Court bailiff, will replace Chief Chris Krug, when he retires June 30.
Township Trustee President Mike Nolan said he is confident Hess' experience will serve the community well.
"Mr. Hess has a distinguished career in law enforcement and we believe he will be a great leader for our community," Nolan said. "His 36 years of law enforcement leadership experience shows he is more than qualified and prepared to lead our department."
Hess has 16 years of leadership experience, including as acting chief. He has held several positions in the Miamisburg Police Department, from 1978 to 2012, when he retired as captain.
He was recognized as Officer of the Year in 1996 and received a distinguished service award from the Miamisburg Police Department in 2003. He has also been a Reserve Police Officer in the Village of Carlisle and Wayne Township.
