DAYTON -- It is officially summer today, the longest day of the year. For those in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease, this takes on a whole new meaning.
The outdoor volleyball courts at Scene 75 saw plenty of action today, with dozens of people playing for 16 hours: from sun up to sun down. The longest day campaign is about doing something for 16 hours straight, to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer's Association.
"We're really representing what Alzheimer's patients go through and caregivers go through 16 hours. I mean I'm exhausted right now and I can only imagine what it's like to have Alzheimer's or a caregiver who's up 24 hours a day taking care of residents," said Tabatha Arnold, with the Wood Glen Alzheimer's Community which put on today's event.
One in every eight older Americans has Alzheimer's. Unless there's a cure, the numbers will triple by 2050.
