CINCINNATI -- A homeless 21-year-old man will now face a charge of murder after a 15 year old he allegedly shot in the head dies.
Joseph Wright is held on a $2 million bond, charged with three counts of felonious assault in connection with a triple shooting but Cincinnati Police say prosecutors will now file a murder charge. One of his alleged victims, 15-year-old D'Maris Glover of Covington died Thursday night from a gunshot wound to his head.
D'Maris Glover was in a car Wednesday night on Third Street in downtown Cincinnati when someone opened fire on it. Two other young men were also wounded and they've been talking with police.
Local 12's Rich Jaffe says the shooting occurred last night around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday right behind the Dunnhumby building. People were still around after the Reds game, working their way to their cars, so there were witnesses. Police believe the whole thing started and ended on the other side of the river.
Family members say Glover was just along for the ride when the car he was in came under fire on Third Street in Cincinnati.
Captain Gary Lee, Cincinnati District 1 Commander: "This was really an incident that originated in Northern Kentucky the participants are basically residents of Northern Kentucky they just happened to be on Third Street when the incident unfolded."
The Reds game ended a short time before the shooting. Also shot in the car were 23-year-old Dequinn Little and a third young man, Darian Jackson. Both were also wounded.
"It was an incident where the victims' car was stopped at a traffic light and the other car purposely came up beside them and opened fire on it."
The victims' car went across the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge. The driver dropped one of the men off at the Fourth Street Speedway in Covington. The two others made it to Saint Elizabeth Hospital. Medics rushed D'Maris back across the river to Children's Hospital.
Of the three victims, the only one with any kind of criminal history is Dequinn Little. He has multiple drug related offenses both in Hamilton and Kenton Counties.
"It's apparent to us, the shooters and the victims were known to one another. There was some kind of altercation that had happened earlier."
"Could have been a couple days ago, the resultant fact is that altercation culminated in this shooting."
D'Maris Glover's family members tell Rich he was basically a good kid in the wrong place at the wrong time.
