DAYTON -- A young pregnant mother murdered is remember at vigil by family and friends.
Thursday night, Da'Lyne Foster's newborn baby clung to life, while the community clung to each other.
Foster was remembered where she was struck down. Those who knew her joined in with prayers and singing.
"Da'Lyne, I miss you, I love you, I'm sorry you had to leave us this way," Foster's Aunt Connie Brooks managed through her tears. "It's senseless. I'm just tired of this."
Four days overdue and excited to meet her fourth son, Da'Lyne took a stroll on doctors orders.
No one could have predicted the tragic events that would follow on Wednesday.
Police say a fight broke out between two groups of people in the DeSoto Bass neighborhood. Soon there was gunfire. Da'Lyne was caught in the crossfire and shot in the chest. The wound ultimately took her life.
Foster's unborn son was saved. Her baby boy was delivered by emergency c-section overnight.
At the vigil, Da'Lyne's father David was optimistic.
"I miss her. I know people don't like to hear it but you have to die to go to heaven And I know she is in heaven," David Foster said Thursday.
David says he and his wife will take custody of all four of his late daughter's children.
Dayton Police are waiting on a ballistics test to help lead them to the shooter. The investigation is still open.
