DAYTON -- Pool weather is no fun, especially if you don't know how to swim.
Hundreds of Dayton kids took part at three different pools in the world's largest swimming lesson. It's not just about the fun.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 5 and it takes only seconds for it to happen.
Tuesday, lifeguards taught kids basic skills like backstroke, floating and breathing techniques.
Even if you are not a lifeguard, parents should always be on the lookout for their kids in the water.
"If a child is under the age of 8, get in the water with them. Make sure you're in arms reach of them and when I say watch your children, don't' be on your cell phones, don't be on your tablets, don't read a magazine when you're watching your kids make sure that you're in the water with them actually watching them," said Sarah Lydia Keihlsteward, Aquatics Specialist.
The current Guinness World Record for the "largest swimming lesson" is just under 25,000. Tuesday's swim lesson was held all across the country, so we're waiting to see if we broke that record.
