DAYTON -- An interim fire chief has been named following the announcement of Fire Chief Herbert Redden's retirement.
Twenty-four-year veteran Jeffrey Payne had been serving as Assistant Chief of Emergency Services since 2008 before being named interim chief today by City Manager Tim Riordan.
Payne was hired as a Dayton Firefighter on January 23, 1989. He was promoted to Lieutenant on June 29, 1996, and promoted to Captain on March 8, 2002. He was appointed to his current position as Assistant Chief in October 2008.
âChief Payneâs steady growth within the Dayton Fire Department and his proven leadership abilities will enable him to lead the Department well during this period,â Riordan said. âHis experience and qualifications will ensure that the City of Daytonâs excellent fire and EMS operations continue uninterrupted.â
Payne's new assignment is effective July 1.
