DAYTON -- Police are serious about cracking down on impaired drivers.
Officers are teaming up with the Montgomery County OVI Taskforce Saturday night for a "no refusal" checkpoint on Keowee near Bacon Street in the downtown area.
"If we catch you and we offer you a breath test and you refuse, we have probable cause to get a search warrant, all signs of being impaired, then we'll go to prosecutor, judge to sign it and we'll get your blood," said Carlene Maynes, with the Montgomery County OVI Taskforce.
Saturday was a perfect night for the sobriety checkpoint because of the warm weather. Officials say many people will be out and will more than likely have a drink.
The goal is to get drunk drivers off the street. Eldine Phoenix, a mother of two 21-year-olds says that's a good idea.
"I think that everyone should not try to avoid going through because they are going to come after you anyway no matter what," Phoenix said. "Safety is the number one priority."
Dayton has 12 of these per year. Organizers stress if you're going to drink make plans ahead of time to get home; you could be saving your life and someone else's.
"If you're going out with a group of friends be the designated driver this time so next time you don't have to be, take turns, call a cab, stay overnight, just don't get in a car because it's a weapon."
Dayton police will be out here facilitating this checkpoint until 2 a.m.
