NEW YORK (AP) -- The new Cheerios commercial appears to be the viral talk of the town.
As part of the Healthy Heart Campaign, the 30-second ad features a child asking if Cheerios really are good for her heart. What has people talking, though, is that the child is bi-racial, her mother is white and her father is black.
Cheerio's is standing behind the commercial, as Marketing Vice President Camille Gibson adds, "we felt like we were reflecting an American family."
Gibson notes it's the first time that the focus on family moments has included an interracial couple, and General Mills Inc. cast the actors to reflect the changing U.S. population.
The commercial generated so much objection on YouTube that Cheerios has requested the comment section be turned off.
