PAY IT FORWARD -- "Knowledge is power. The more knowledge you have, the more powerful you are going to be. And I think it is important because they are our future leaders and we have to prepare them for their next phase of life," says Joyce Whitaker the Development Director with the YED Foundation.
The Youth Entrepreneurship Development Foundation gives challenged urban youth an opportunity to develop a future.
"A lot of our young people don't have the same resources other younger people have, especially in the Dayton community. So if you get one person or organization or 10 or 15 organizations, that really want to take the time to foster these young people. They use that as tools and stepping stones to get to the next level," says Whitaker.
The YED Foundation collaborates with NASA and the STEM Regional Program to support kids by allowing them to get a jump start.
"That does involve business leaders and people of the community that want to come to not only spark dreams but to use those same dreams to go through college if they want to or to get technical skills so they can own their own businesses," quotes Whitaker.
But most importantly, it sparks confidence and the internal drive for the road ahead.
"We are products of our environment but you can break those molds! And those were able to do so," says Whitaker confidently.
"Joyce, we from River Valley Credit Union are so excited for all of the great work you are doing so we would like to present you with this $250 check," said Sue Montesano with the River Valley Credit Agency.
