Memorial Day Cookout Tips

UNDATED -- Cookouts have come to be a Memorial Day tradition.  This year, be very careful how well you cook the meat.

Researchers have linked grilled meats to cancer-causing substances.  By avoiding charring and by marinating steaks and putting oregano on ground beef, you can actually reduce carcinogens after grilling.

"If you can marinate them in some type of balsamic vinegar or an olive-based dressing, that will also reduce the cancer-causing chemicals in your meats," says Amy Jamieson-Petonic, a registered dietician from the Cleveland Clinic.
