DAYTON -- During a call to a home by Crisis Care, a man reportedly became violent and threw a brick at a Dayton Police cruiser.

Dayton Police Lt. Andrew Booher said the man, who was  not identified but described as in his mid- to late-30s, was off his medications and the Crisis Care team was trying to transport him to the hospital for treatment.

As the violence escalated, Booher said, police backed out of the house. During that time, the man reportedly threw a brick at a police cruiser, which damaged the light bar and hood. He also did "quite a bit of damage in the house, too," Booher said.

The man displayed no weapons and police were carrying their less-lethal weapons in an attempt to use the least amount of force necessary, Booher said.

This was the first time police had been called out to this address for a situation like this.

Police quickly got a hold of the man on the phone and was able to get him calmed down. He then came outside, Booher said, and police were able to secure the man.

Booher said the incident took about 25-30 minutes to be resolved. The man will be facing charges for the damage to the police cruiser.
