Protest Today Against IRS in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI -- 200 tea party supporters gathered today in downtown  Cincinnati protesting the IRS and it's targeting of conservative groups.

The Cincinnati demonstration started at Fountain Square and then moved to the Federal Building which houses IRS offices.

The group's president, Ann Becker, called the extra scrutiny of tea party groups an abuse of government power.

A recently retired senior manager from the Cincinnati office says it's unfortunate employees there are being blamed.

Today, the former head of the IRS, Steven Miller, reversed his previous testimony before Congress.  He admitted that the agency's targeting of conservative groups "absolutely was" a partisan act, which may have implications under the Hatch Act which forbids government employees from engaging in partisan political activity.

CINCINNATI -- On Tuesday, in Cincinnati and around the country, protests will take place in lieu of the latest IRS scandal.

The IRS admits targeting hundreds of tea parties and other conservative groups for more than two years.

At first, the IRS blamed low-level workers at its Cincinnati office.  However, members of Congress are investigating and don't believe those claims.

The Cincinnati protest will begin at noon Tuesday on Fountain Square.  It will proceed to the Federal Building.
