UPDATE: CENTERVILLE -- A long time Boy Scout leader and high school math teacher, fell to his death while rappelling at Hocking Hills State Forest.
Pete Livingston loved the outdoors and loved volunteering his time to help others.
"He just had a deep passion for helping young people be better people." Boy Scouts of America Executive Doug Nelson said.
Livingston was a leader of Venture Crew 193, a co-ed program, under the the Boy Scouts of America.
On Saturday, Livingston and 3 teens and another crew leader went on a rappelling trip at Hocking Hills State Forest.
Officials said Livingston fell 125 feet off a cliff and died.
"We are absolutely devastated. He was a great friend and a great role model and mentor." Nelson said.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the fall is still under investigation
Nelson said Livingston was experienced outdoors man.
"I know Pete was a very avid climber and outdoors man so its just one of those unfortunate accidents."
Livingston, from Centerville, was an Air Force Veteran and enjoyed teaching math at the Dayton Business Technology High School.
ABC 22/FOX 45 NEWS featured Livingston and his class in April for our "Cool Schools " segment.
Today, Dayton Business Technology School released this statement:
"Mr .Livingston was an excellent educator who loved students and had a zeal for life and a passion for education. Our hearts are saddened to lose such a valuable member of our staff.
He is man to be honored for his commitment to our country
as a retired air force officer and revered for his love of students in this community and his believe that they can accomplish anything no matter what their circumstances.
We send our condolences to his family. He will truly be missed but his legacy of excellence and love of life lives on." - Phillitia Charlton and the Dayton Business Technology Staff and Board.
Nelson said Livingston volunteered his time helping young people his entire adult life. Grief counselors will on hand at future boy scout and venture crew meetings.
"The loss will be felt by many through out the area. "
Livingston would have turned 53 on Tuesday. He will be buried with full military honors later this week.

Livingston, 52, was an avid climber and was with three scouts and another scout leader when the accident happened. He was a leader of Venture Crew 193, a co-ed group that performs challenging activities to help promote youth development.
Nelson said the scouting community was devastated at the news of Livingston's death. Area scouts held a memorial service on Sunday and a grief counselor helped those most affected by Livingston's accident.
Nelson said Livingston is an Air Force veteran with two sons, one who also is in the Air Force. His funeral is being scheduled for later this week and he will be buried with full military honors.

Peter Randall Livingston, 52, fell 125 feet from a cliff in Hocking State Forest.

LOGAN (AP) -- Authorities say a 52-year-old Centerville man died when he fell from a cliff while rappelling in southeastern Ohio over the weekend.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the man died in the fall Saturday in Hocking State Forest near Logan.
Agency spokesman Mark Bruce said the man fell from the top of a 130-foot cliff. His name has not been released.
