PIQUA -- A woman and baby were rescued this morning from the second floor of a house that was on fire.
The baby was dropped to a neighbor and the woman then jumped from the second floor.
Skip Ward, a neighbor, said he noticed the flames from the house next door and called 911. He then went next door and helped save the baby. It's unknown right now if the baby is a boy or girl.
Ward said the baby's mother was reluctant to drop her child to Ward, who said the mother really had no choice, since they were trapped by flames. Eventually, she decided to drop the baby into Ward's arms.
Assistant Fire Chief Vince Ashcraft said several other people were in the home and were rescued by firefighters. He said some sustained injuries but none were serious. They were taken to Upper Valley Medical Center as a precaution.
The state fire marshal has been called to investigate the fire, which began about 4:30 Friday morning on 515 Adams Street.
Firefighters said the dense fog slowed their response this morning.
