Huber Heights Bar Owner Had Troubled Past With Another Bar

HUBER HEIGHTS -- A troubled bar in Huber Heights, and the owner has a troubled past.

Turns out, the owner of Heat Nightclub, also had part in a bar in Harrison Township.

It was called "The Texas Roundup." The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office confirmed her family owned the bar from 2006-2008.

During that time period, they had responded to 180 calls for fights, shootings and disorderly conduct.

"We need to do what's right and what it takes to make sure our community is safe," said David Lockhart, Huber Heights residents.

Lockhart is one of many people fighting to get the Heat Nightclub out of Huber Heights.

"This is my community, it's not just my community, it's all of our community," said Lockhart.

But the problems here, 637 calls to Huber Heights Police, shootings, fightings, and the latest a double homicide.

It all sounds familiar to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and to neighbors in Huber Heights.

"There's people walking around," said Lauryn, "You never know what people are carrying or if you're the next target"'

The Sheriff's Office also tells us the family voluntarily shut down The Texas Roundup to save their liquor license.

It shut down around 2009 and in November 2010, Jessica Kennedy opened Heat Nightclub.

For neighbors now knowing the fatal shooting could possibly have been prevented, is hard to swallow.

"It's unreal, it shouldn't be allowed, it's scary," said Lauryn.

"I'm disgusted," said Lockhart, "I'm disgusted that she's allowed to do something like this and get away with it."

We spoke to Kennedy on the phone, she tells us this is two separate businesses and two separate liquor licenses.

She also said, the reason they moved out of Harrison Township is because their lease was up.
