DAYTON-Thanks to our very generous ABC 22/FOX 45 viewers, a local family will have a bright Christmas after a horrible weekend.
Monday night we told you about the Prater family. Their Huber Heights home was burglarized, while their little girl was having surgery at Dayton Children's Hospital .
After our story aired Monday, donations came pouring in.
Christmas came early for 3-year-old Bailey Prater, and her little brother DJ. They spent the day opening presents at Dayton Children's.
Kristina and her husband Daniel are overwhelmed. They were crying tears of joy after a devastating couple of days.
"It feels like today is Christmas morning, and after the weekend we've had, this is just amazing." Kristina said.
On Saturday, they rushed their daughter Bailey to the hospital.
She had to have emergency surgery, and her appendix removed.
While they were gone, someone broke into their home and stole all their Christmas gifts.
But our viewers wouldn't let them have a blue Christmas.
White Allen Chevrolet brought in bags full of toys.
"To help these kids out, and to see a smile for the day, its worth it."
Tom Pendleton from White Allen Chevrolet said.
Lisa Tucker and Jim Elam from Bill's Donut Shop have never met Kristin and Daniel Prater, but today they got hugs from the couple after giving them a cash gift
"It's always better to give to someone else. Just to see the look on Kristina's face, we knew we did the right thing."
"There are still so many good people out there." Kristina said.
Daniel lost his construction job a few weeks ago. He said to get this support from complete strangers, shows what kind of people are here in the Miami Valley.
"Thank you very much." He said. "I appreciate it, and I know my kids do. It was very generous. God bless you and your families."
