HUBER HEIGHTS -- A 20-year-old driver crashes into a house early Wednesday morning.

It happened shortly after 2 a.m. in the 5000 block of Taylorsville Road. The driver told police a couple of different stories.

At first he said he was reaching for a cigarette and ran a stop sign. Then he told police his brakes failed.

The homeowner, J.R. Routt, is an off-duty firefighter and paramedic. He says his training immediately kicked in and he made sure everyone in the house and the driver were OK.

Routt's home is currently for sale. He says this crash "will certainly hamper that a little bit ... that's all little stuff in the grand scheme."

Police say they're going to test the brakes to make sure the driver's story adds up. No one was injured. The driver will be cited for failure to control.
