DAYTON -- An 86-year-old man charged with solicitation reportedly told police he was on his way to buy a headstone for his recently deceased wife and daughter.
James O. Brown told police he was lonely after he was recorded asking an undercover officer for "everything" for $40.
Brown said his wife of 55 years had died February 28 and he'd been lonely ever since, although he denied any intention of having sex with the woman. He told police that sex would be impossible since he has Stage 4 kidney cancer. Instead, he said he was just looking for someone to talk to.
Eventually, police said, he told them he made a horrible mistake and said he'd never do it again.
Because of Brown's age, officers decided to issue him a summons to appear in court, rather than to arrest him. There are no records of previous prostitution-related arrests.
