Dayton's Funk Hall of Fame and Museum Announcement Coming May 3

DAYTON -- Along with its rich aviation heritage, the Gem City also is known for its rich history with funk music, including the bands Ohio Players, Lakeside, Heatwave, Slave and the late Roger Troutman & the Zapp band.

Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell, David Webb of the Dayton Funk Dynasty Group and some legendary funk artists will announce on May 3 the location of the long-awaited Funk Hall of Fame and Museum.

According to a Funk Dynasty statement, Dayton will be the permanent home of funk music, paying tribute to legendary artist such as James Brown, George Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic, Sly & the Family Stone, George Duke, Cameo, The Bar-Kays, Earth Wind & Fire, The Isley Brothers, Average White Band, The Brother’s Johnson, The Gap Band and many other global funk artists. In addition, it will recognize and honor the writers, producers, promoters, radio, DJs and others who have made significant contributions to the genre of funk music.

The Funk Hall of Fame Museum is Phase 1 of the project. The announcement on May 3 is expected to reveal "exciting plans that will surely make Dayton, Ohio, a global entertainment destination," according to the Funk Dynasty statement. They claim this will be “The Funk Music Announcement of the Year!”
