DAYTON -- Antonio D. Addison, 18, of Miamisburg was found guilty Friday of aggravated robbery and involuntary manslaughter related to the stabbing death of Phillip Ochen on December 2, 2012, in Miami Township.
Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck Jr. said Addison, Ochen and a coâdefendant, Juwaun B. Bateman, went to an apartment complex parking lot on Knoll Ridge Drive in Miami Township late on the night of December 2 with the intention of committing an aggravated robbery.
Heck said Ochen fought with the intended robbery victim and both were armed with knives. During the struggle, Heck said, Ochen was fatally stabbed by the intended robbery victim.
Today, Addison entered guilty pleas to counts of Involuntary Manslaughter and Aggravated Robbery. Under Ohio law, Addison is culpable for any death that occurs during the commission of an aggravated robbery, including the death of his robbery accomplice, Phillip Ochen. The coâdefendant, Bateman, was convicted of the same charges on April 18.
âThese defendants were determined to commit a robbery. Their intended victim was able to defend himself, and fatally stabbed one of his attackers. This defendant, a coâconspirator, will also be held accountable for the death,â Heck said.
Addison is scheduled to be sentenced May 9 at 2 p.m. Bateman is to be sentenced May 23 at 2 p.m. Both defendants are being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $500,000 bonds.
