Gold Medalists Crowned In Math Olympics

DAYTON -- Call it the "Battle of the Brains" in Dayton.

The top "mathletes" in Dayton Public Schools competed in the Math Olympics.

The students were divided into two grade levels, 4th through 6th and 7th through 8th.

Some of the youngsters were challenged in a game show style competition, while others used their hands to construct geometric figures.

The students had to demonstrate cooperation, participation and collaboration.

Lillian Drakeford, the associate director of curriculum and instruction for Dayton Public Schools said, "It's very exciting to see the enthusiasm of the students and we hope to keep that enthusiasm going throughout their career in Dayton Public Schools."

Eastmont took home the title for the Grade 4 to 6 competition and Wogaman was declared the champion for the 7th and 8th grade division.
