Dayton -- The situation in Boston has had a direct impact on local events here in the Miami Valley.
The Winter Guard International Championships at UD Arena is drawing more than 11,000 people across the world.
There is a no backpack rule for the event and plenty of Dayton police officers patrolling in and outside the arena. WGI also have their security officers, and organizers say so far it has been extremely smooth.
There are about 200 percussion teams from all over. We've met people from Brazil to Japan. Organizers say safety for those people is there first priority.
"There's always security procedures in place but we did have meetings right after that Tuesday in the afternoon and made sure that we had our plans all of our ducks in a row and were going to make sure the World Championships went off without a hitch," said Bart Woodley, WGI Director of Operations.
The WGI Percussion Championships runs Saturday night until 10:00 p.m.
