COLUMBUS -- Forty Ohio House and Senate members have signed a letter to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources opposing proposed changes to deer hunting rules.
Some of those rules would extend some hunting hours, add bag limits by county, which would replace deer zones, and eliminate certain hunting seasons in some public areas.
The ODNR says these changes, if approved by the Ohio Wildlife Council, would take effect for the 2013-2014 hunting seasons. The Ohio Wildlife Council is expected to vote on the proposal today.
The letter by the politicians claims the changes lack scientific basis and will disrupt the successful deer management policies already in place.
The letter opposes the elimination of the statewide two-day gun season in late December, the county bag limits, the elimination of urban deer hunts among other issues.
