Boston Meeting Blood Demand in Wake of Bombings

DAYTON -- The Community Blood Center says it has reached out to blood centers in the Boston area and has found that they are meeting demand because of a strong support from area donors.

"It was the blood that was on the shelves yesterday, donated over the past several weeks, that was key to helping the hospitals in the immediate aftermath," said the Rhode Island Blood Center, which supplied supplemental blood to Boston. "The best thing that you can do is to become regular blood donors so that blood is always available the instant it is needed."

Mark Pompilio of the Community Blood Center in Dayton thanked local volunteers who have expressed concern.
