HUBER HEIGHTS -- It's been no secret. Huber Heights has wanted the Heat Night Club out for a while due to numerous fights, shootings, and drug issues. The city got its wish because the club lost its liquor license. However, the Heat has re-opened recently as a teen night club. The owner claims that all the past problems are gone for good, but not everyone is buying that story.
Sit, Stay and Play Dog Park is next door to what's now the Heat Teen Night Club.
âSince they don't have their liquor license and it's not going to be that crowd, I don't think it'll be as bad, but I still wouldn't go there,â said Megan Furderer, an employee at the dog park.
Megan saw what the club was like when it was for adults. Now owners say only high school students are allowed in. Obviously, there's no alcohol, but a lot of people still question whether problems will eventually arise.
âI think it's still going to be the same thing going on. If I was the mother of a teenager I wouldn't let him or her go. I think it's trouble all the way around,â said Amber Carter, who also works at the dog park.
âWhat I would tell all parents is that we're trying to do something good for the community,â said club disc jockey Jonathan Steele.
Steele says the club now has more security guards. Every teen is patted down, and their bags are searched.
âWe just want to make sure it's safe. We don't want fighting, alcohol or drugs and so far, so good, no issues,â he said.
For now, the club is only open to teens on Saturday nights.
The club also said it's not just catering to teens to pass the time until it can possibly get another liquor permit. The owner says they plan to keep it a teen club.
