WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) -- Coyotes aren't very popular in suburban areas. But a southwest Ohio park has found they do have their uses.
The Voice of America Park has six plastic coyotes standing guard over grass seed for new athletic fields being prepared for use next year. The park manager says Canada geese in the area love to feast on grass seed, but fear coyotes.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that park officials considered other anti-geese methods such as noise guns or dogs. But they decided the coyotes would be the most cost-effective solution at $99 each. There are six, and they get positioned around by park staff.
MetroParks supervisor of operations Tony Montgomery comments that the staff at first was on "a wild goose chase" before finding the right employees for the job.
