KETTERING -- The Kettering Public Safety Communications Center on March 23 received an accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA).
This accreditation of the police department, jail, and communications center shows the pursuit of professional excellence as a Triple Crown achievement.
The accreditation follows the department's eighth re-accreditation on November 17. The Kettering Police Department also accepted its third consecutive Accreditation with Excellence Award. This award recognizes the go-to agencies for others to consult or emulate best practices.
The Department was first accredited under the direction of Chief James M. OâDell in 1987, making it the fifth agency in Ohio to receive such status. The KPD jail also holds national accreditation under the American Corrections Association.
OâDell stated that he is proud of the service the employees of the Police Department deliver to the citizens. One of the assessors who inspected the police department delivered the highest compliment by saying, "Kettering Police Department employees are serious with a smile."
