DAYTON-- The snow expected on Sunday could affect the NCAA tournament and the thousands of fans in town for it. By the time the first game kicks off Sunday afternoon at 12:15, an inch of snow is expected to be on the ground. For fans driving long distances back home, the weather could cause some problems.
"I'm a little worried about driving back to Cleveland, but you know, hopefully we'll make it home okay," said Mary Sagerman. She was in town Saturday afternoon tailgating with her family in the parking lot of UD Arena. Sagerman said her family may drive home earlier than planned on Sunday.
"I would like to get home and be in my own home, but better be safe that sorry," she said.
The NCAA said it is not anticipating any game delays because of the weather. NCAA onsite coordinators are going to be in regular contact with UD Arena officials to manage any situation that may arise because of the weather.
"We are exploring extending their (teams) hotel stays if their travel is delayed after the games because of inclement weather," said an NCAA spokesperson on Saturday.
NCAA officials are encouraging fans to pay attention to the weather and use good judgment when traveling on Sunday.
