DAYTON -- ABC 22 News has exclusive video of an assault on an RTA bus that ended in gunfire Wednesday evening.
Michael Howard witnessed everything that happened and says incidents like these happen far too often. He believes the common culprit to these incidents is bulling the elderly.
The violence stemmed from an argument between a teen an older man. The video shows the older man in a brown jacket, blue hat turns around and starts to choke the teenager.
Howard says the teen was picking on the man in front of all his friends. Howard has also been teased by the same teenager on the bus and said he tries to keep his distance.
"Then he saw me in the front, started yelling at me and pointing to me with those friends of his and I'm way at the front by the door," said Howard, who's a resident of Dayton view.
During the argument a middle age man intervenes on behalf of the teen, then death threats ensued.
"You gonna get killed," said the older man.
After the bus driver tells all three men they have to leave the bus, the middle age man confronts the older man ...who snaps pulls out his gun and threatens to shoot.
"There were as close as I am to you, I could almost touch you, he could have touched him, the guns right here, he did like that one shot," Howard explained.
He said the man fired a shot to the side, trying to scare the other guy off.
"He could have killed him right there, he'd be dead, if he didn't have his gun, they would have been reporting, old man beat up, may be dead, dying on the sidewalk," Howard said.
We reached out to the RTA about this incident and officials released this statement:
"It is unfortunate that any situation or isolated incidents like these occur and the RTA is a safe way to travel. Safety is the most important part of our mission and core values and we take it very seriously through training and incident investigation follow-up."
Police have not had any luck finding the man who fired the shots. Investigators are looking at that surveillance video to try to get a good description. If you recognize the man in the video, call Dayton Police at 333-COPS.
