TSA Taking Heat for Knife-Ban Reversal

The Transportation Security Administration's plan to scrap a post 9/11 ban on pocket knives is triggering angry backlash from lawmakers, pilots, flight attendants, and airline chiefs.

The TSA announced its new policy last week, allowing passengers to carry small knives with blades measuring 3 inches or less. The ban is set to be reversed by April 25th.

One of the vocal critics on the policy change is New York Senator Chuck Schumer. He says, "You don't have to have a PHD in Physics, you don't have to be Albert Einstein to know that these items are dangerous."

A spokesperson for the TSA said last week that the policy change was based on a recommendation from an internal TSA working group. They decided the knives don't pose a real threat. They also say the move would allow screeners to focus on other items, like explosives.
