URBANA â Residents in Champaign and Logan counties woke up Wednesday morning to several inches of snow and a Level 2 Snow Emergency.
âIâve been out here off and on for a couple hoursâ said Richard Stokes, Urbana Resident.
Richard Stokes has lived in his Urbana neighborhood for 60 years, and is all too familiar with snow storms and the hard work required afterwards.
âEverybody comes out and expresses their feelings about the arduous task of shoveling snow and hoping this is the last one of the yearâ said Stokes.
Many northern counties in the Miami Valley saw around seven inches of snow.
County engineers in Champaign and Logan counties say underneath all the slushy snow is a layer of hard pack ice. While major roadways were mostly clear, side streets still posed dangers to motorist, something ABC 22 News reporter, Kavontae Smalls learned the hard way.
Unbeknownst to him, Kavontae pulled over on a side road. If the slushy pavement wasnât enough to deal with, there was also a hidden danger beneath all the snow and ice.
âI didnât know about the rock either, Iâd never really noticed it there, but that would do it and would prevent you from pulling outâ said Andrew Tavenner, Urbana Resident.
The rock was about a foot in diameter, and covered in snow and became stuck underneath the news van. Fortunately, some concerned neighbors provided a helping hand.
âIt gets deeper right there, and I think the neighbor put the rock there to keep people from pulling in and getting stuckâ said Eric Jensen, Urbana resident.
The snow is expected to melt soon with warmer temperatures expected towards the end of the week, and for those people sick of shoveling snow, thatâs sure to bring forth a warm smile.
